My Baby is 16

Dear Family,

First and foremost, do not ignore the post below from Rosey. I almost didn't write because I wanted hers to be on top so you would all see it. Thanks, Rosey, for putting that wonderful event on paper (or on screen or whatever you say) We are so thrilled for you.

My baby Max is sleeping on the big chair by the computer. He is 16 you know. We just returned from a very long, exhausting 3 hours at the Driver's License Division. It was quite the wait but Max assured me that it was worth it. I even missed bookclub! (Mother=sacrifice) Then we celebrated with lunch at KFC. He is resting up for basketball practice in a couple hours. I think he had a good birthday. It started Sunday having Nick and Stef here for a steak dinner, followed by gma Winder, Aunt Karen and the Yorgs dropping in to have some cake and ice cream. No presents then but everyone loved meeting new baby Clay. Then on Monday for FHE Max drove Bret and I downtown to Mr. Mac's and they both got a new suit and a tie. Yesterday was the official b-day and he played his Sophomore basketball game after school where he played a bit in the first quarter. They lost to Murray but he was happy to at least play. Then he and dad had steak again for dinner while I went to Hale Theater to a play. When I got home Kristin Morrill was here. She had brought Max a gift of sheet music and Starbursts. So with Kristin we opened his few gifts. Thanks to Nick and Stef for the BYU scentsy! Gma's each had sent a nice little gift and I had wrapped the tie to remind him of the suit that is ready for pick up tomorrow. A good day and week for him. I think he will invite some friends on Saturday to round out the birthday week. He is also talking about asking someone to Jr. Prom. Can you believe our baby is 16??

January has been a great month to be with grandkids! I was in St. George from Jan 11-15 (Mon thru Fri.) It was fun to be with little Bret and on his turf. What a delightful personality he has. I loved hearing him call me da-ma. Weather was beautiful the week I was there and our favorite thing was to go walking/running, stopping at the little park on the way home. Bret is one coordinated boy climbing all around, going down even the big slides. It was fun to hear him sing in the stroller as we went. The song was usually "Up on the Housetop!" We went 19 miles in 4days. But of course the highlight of the week was meeting baby Clayton. What a sweet, adorable baby. I'm so happy I could be there with them.

Then I tended Gwen, Ben and Ivy from Jan. 16-25 while B&K went on their cruise. I went from being da-ma to just ma-ma from Ben. The kids were all really good but especially Ben. I told him several times what a sweetheart he was and we would always reply "I not a sweetheart, I Ben!" Ben is getting good at saying prayers, too. At the first of the week he ended them with "b-men." By the end he had figured out "a-men." Gwen said some really sweet personal prayers, too. One night she blessed that "all our wishes would come true" and the next night she went on and on about all the grandpas in the world that they would get their work done. All three of the kids slept in Janey's bedroom and that worked well (except you could hardly move around for the two port-a-cribs) One afternoon we thought Ben was still asleep. Max was practicing the piano and when he finished I heard Ben yell out "good job Max." I loved it. Dad needs to tell about Gwen's Spiderman comment, along with her reasoning with not liking the Muppet characters. Ivy was fun to tend, too. Course she couldn't say clever things, but she certainly communicates her needs. Nancy and Andrea had her in Relief Society for two weeks and she just sat and smiled at everyone and did crazy things with her tongue.

So it has been a full, fun month. One new baby, one new son-in-law to be. Wahoo our family is growing. After May 22 there will officially be 15 of us!

Love to you all. Mom

In case you had not heard...I am engaged!

Blaine and Kris...I have not been ignorning you. I have been sick and you have been flying, etc. I tried calling this morning and will try again soon. I am sorry I was not the person to get to tell you the big news! I love you guys and hope you had a great time. Here is my bark letter. I think it is easier reading it here. Love you all.

Hello Happy Family,

I know that word spreads quickly and I wish I could have called each and every one of you individually, but course that would be nearly impossible. I got engaged to Daniel Moroni Turley on Saturday night (I didn't write this yesterday because I was deathly ill!) We are getting married on May 22nd, 2010 in the Draper UTAH temple. Of course you are all invited, but I understand that circumstances are not possible for all of you. A really quick story of how it happend....

I was in charge of a ward activity on Saturday from like 4-6 and had not really eaten all day so when I got home I was tired and really did not want to do anything but watch a good game or something. He came over and asked if I would like to go to dinner, I was grumpy and told him NO! (This is a lesson in never being grumpy people...) He was nice and did not get upset or anything and just ate some of the left over enchilada's that I had made a couple nights earlier (Jills recipe in the Bassett Cookbook, delicious!) I layed my head on the table while he ate because I was not feeling well, after he finished he asked if I would want to go get ice cream. At this point I was a little bit bugged by him wanting so badly to do something. I tried to be nice about it but said that I raelly just was not up for going out (not to mention I had not showered that day nor was I looking great!) So we sat and talked for a while, when he asked, how about we go on a walk? MY GOODNESS HE NEVER REALLY CARES WHAT WE DO, WHY TONIGHT WHEN I DON'T FEEL WELL! That is what I was thinking. Lucky for him soon after he asked me that, my room mate got home with a couple of friends and turned on loud music and made it so that anywhere but there seemed a good place to be. And so I went in my room put on some warm clothes and tried to put on a good attitude. We then went to his car (I am sitting there thinking...a walk huh?) and then we drove. I asked him where we were going and then it suddenly occured to me what might be happening, at that point I really tried to be happy and fun. We drove to Riverwoods mall and then he carried me through some snow to get to the parkway on University Parkway (I think he may have lost a few toes from the coldness that night, poor guy) As we walked it was snowing (always been my dream for getting engaged!) And then we made it to "our spot" that has significant meaning. I love it because it is so quiet and private right there in teh middle of Provo. We stood there talking not able to sit down on the bench because of the deep snow, when he told me he had a quesiton. I was ready for it when he asked, "I went to that place where we found that ring that you liked and the ring is lot more money than what the lady told us so I can't afford it right now, so do you want to try and find something else or do you want to just wait a couple months until I can afford it?" So there I was sick and rejected. I of course tried my best to have a good attitude and told him it was totally okay and that we could find something else. I also asked him why he felt the need to drag me out here to ask me that. We talked a few more minutes and then he said we should probably go since it was so cold, as we went to leave he said, "Oh I have just one more question..." And then he got down on that very wet cement and he aske me to marry him. For the first time in my life, the only word I could think to say was YES! YES! I had wanted to say somethign more witty but that was all I could think of. He then expressed his love and blah blah blah (I loved it of course but I won't make you all bear through it) and then it suddenly hit me and I was just jumping up and down screaming, I about tackled him and the ring into the snow and I was just as crazy and happy as ever! It was a wonderful moment in my life. We of course stayed there a while and then finally walked back, soaking wet from the snow and so happy. We then drove to an empty church parking lot to call our families, close friends, and grandmas. It was entertaining for me to hear him talk to his family versus me takl to mine. Anybody who has met Daniel knows he is not exactly wild and crazy, thus he mostly just remained calm while I screamed I am engaged! We then went home and talked with our room mates and it was amzing to me how quickly word spread, I had so many people from my ward come over to see the ring and congratulate me. It was so wonderful. At about 11:30 I suddenly remembered how sick I felt and went home to bed, I continued to be sick yesterday and only saw him for a few minutes, I don't make the best fiance I guess....I am feeling much better today though and am just so excited!

Well that is it. I love you all. Hope to see you at the wedding.

Love, Rosey
