Thanks for the letter, Mom! Loved every word. So grateful for the outcome with your scary driving experience. Whew! Can never be too careful. (And incidentally, sorry about the soup. Sounds like a really annoying mess to have to clean up.) Love reading about your life--thanks for sharing and writing to us so faithfully!

Dear Family,

I want to report on this past Easter week. It was a great one. A couple of events that stand out. First, dad and I went to our caucus meeting at Hunter High School. It was very crowded. We all met in the auditorium for the opening part and we sat by my boss, Wade Meier and his wife, Dayna. I kind of felt like when you are a kid and saw your teacher outside of class - weird! But okay. After the opening, and seeing tons of people we knew, we split into our precincts. Because Rosey is registered at our home address she was there. Our boundaries go from 4000 to 4800 West so lots of family were also there - the lane, Nordgrens, Yorgasons. It was interesting. Rosey was voted as a county delegate (so she can support Mike). We heard someone interesting comments. We voted in our presidential primary. There were about 90 people in attendance from our precinct and Kasich won with Cruz a close second and Trump got 3 votes. Made me wonder who the three crazy people were in that room? Our meeting lasted about two hours, which seemed really long until I talked to Nick who was there until 10:30!

Wednesday, my day off, Janey and I paid a visit to Stef and baby Sofie. I had made some soup for their dinner and had a scary experience. I put it in a big jar on the floor of my car and drove to pick up Janey. As I stopped at the bottom of Deno the jar tipped. I hadn't screwed the lid on tight and I glanced down and saw soup spilling all over the floor. I reached down to catch it and tip the jar back up and as I did my foot eased off the brake and next thing I knew I was out in the middle of 4100 south. Scary. Thankfully I did not get hit and the worst thing was some dirty looks by drivers who thankfully were far enough away to slow down. I really felt Heavenly Father looking out for me and I shakily went home, cleaned it up and got more soup (I had felt prompted to make a big batch that morning) and Janey said she would drive and pick me up. I felt it was my tender mercy. It was a fun visit and Sofie is just the sweetest thing. What a sweet cuddly baby! I love her!

I got some visiting teaching done that afternoon. I guess I felt it is worth mentioning because of the nice visits I had with both Lisa and Biljana. I love visiting teaching for many reasons and one is that it keeps my life in perspective. Plus I learn so much from the sisters I visit. It is a divinely inspired program.

Friday I got to go to lunch with my Winder aunts and cousins. Sue Tanner was in town from Hawaii and that was the motivation for the lunch. We ate at Zupas and my favorite part was hearing Sue talk about Ashley. She was one of their Brazilian missionaries and had just been to visit Sue a couple days before since she couldn't go to the mission reunion. Anyway, Sue shared a little of the physical struggles Ashley had had on the mission (bed bugs, weird insect bites) and how Ashley never complained just continued to work in spite of her set backs. I could sense how much Sue loved and respected her and it was so fun to hear! We hit other fun topics, too. I love all those women!

Saturday night was the General Women's Meeting. Janey got us tickets and a sweet parking pass to the conference center and Ashley, Rosey, Janey and I all went together, arriving in plenty of time. You all saw the Carole Mikita picture! It was a great meeting and I loved sitting by Ashley and feeling her love for the gospel. (I got thinking, too, about the first time a met Stef and it was at a General Women's meeting in Provo and we met in the dark after the lights were off. But I loved her instantly because I could see her taking notes and enjoying every word.). It was a pretty evening and we took our time exiting. We took more photos with the temple as our backdrop. And we are pretty sure we will be featured in the Ensign because a photographer seemed to have his camera aimed right at us. Kidding, but that was the joke of the night! It is Ashley's dream to be in the Ensign. And, to make up for the last 5 years when we have not been able to go out to dinner, we went to Red Lobster afterwards for dinner. Yum. We got two entrees and the four of us shared. So fun to get to know Ashley better.

Easter Sunday was wonderful. Max and Ashley spent the night and went to Rosey's YSA ward. But we all sat together in Sunday School. I sang on our ward choir. They helped me prepare food after meetings and everyone came around 3 pm for our little Easter gathering. (I know all of you readers know this but I'm writing for posterity.) I had taped up pictures of the last week of the Saviors life and we talked about that, opening plastic eggs that had Easter symbols in them. I love how smart the three little boys are. Then dad showed the new church videos - Easter one and Hallelujah Chorus - and bore his testimony. Then we face timed Blaine and Kristi's family and did the money eggs. Sofie, who was first to open her egg opened, got the $20 bill. Gwen got the other $20. We had some appetizers and Nick and Janey's families had to leave but then grandma came and joined the rest of us for a ham dinner. Later we played games and Rosey made popcorn. What a wonderful day!!

One more thing. I wrote about Max's program last week. Nice Rosey taped Max's song on her phone and dad has put it up on Flex. You should check it out. It's under *Max Movies and then it's called Max_songs2. Watch it clear to the end because it seems his voice just gets better and better and builds up to a sweet ending. Dad and I have watched it several times on this family night. What a better family night than to watch your very own kids perform!

Love from Mom

Dear Family,

Great write-up Stef! You were truly a champ through the whole thing. It was interesting comparing each of our thoughts after the labor and delivery were all over. I looked at her with a smile and said, well that was probably our smoothest delivery yet. Her response indictated she clearly didn't agree. From my perspective, She was so graceful, and strong and poised through the whole 10 hour process. And even after the pushing she was still making nice comments to nurses and doctors and managed to still think of others. 

It was also so impressive to watch her diet with her diabetes. Talk about doing what the doctor suggested...she did it. And I think part of what helped her do it wasn't just about obeying a doctor, but knowing she was doing it so Sofie could be healthier. Her example has really brought me pause even about how I eat. It reminded me of an Interview I did with Dave Erickson who told me his story about losing 200 lbs. the thing that pushed him over the edge to make some serious life changes was the realization at some point that he may not be around for grandkids if he didn't change.  He did it for others.  

Whether spiritually, or physically, changing habits is hard, but I guess watching Stef go through that reminded me that acting seflessly can help provide a strong motivation to change. You're a rock star Stef!

We are so grateful for our beautiful baby girl. And I'm equally as grateful for each of the boys and my wonderful wife.

Way fun! What a blessing to get such a sweet little girl after all these crazy boys and, at the same time, what a blessing for the sweet little girl to have so many awesome big brothers. Thanks for sharing about the whole experience—it was very fun to read and made me grateful again for all the women in my life who are willing to do this crazy pregnancy/labor/etc. stuff so that I don't have to do it! However we learned that it is closed for maintenance. Bummer.  So we decided to go to the new Payson Temple on our way.  It is BEAUTIFUL!  It wasn't crowded, we weren't rushed, we could actually sit and visit in the Celestial room.  It was perfect!  Then we made a few more stops along our way - Costa Vida lunch, cheese factory in Beaver for ice cream and cheese curds, and a stop in Cedar City to see the Temple progress there.  We didn't get to St. George until dinner time Friday night.  We headed over to Outback Steakhouse - yum!  There was such a long wait that we even got in some shopping at the Eddie Bauer Outlet a few doors down.  I found some fun stuff for our trip!  And thanks, Stef, for the $10 coupon!

Saturday morning we hiked to "Charlie's" and I got a little run in.  We headed up to the Ledges to see the new condo that Matt and Aimee Newton are building.  They close next week and it is nice, backing on the golf course.  Aimee had tons of stuff (bedding, housewares, etc.)in Yorgs garage that she was storing. We did a little more shopping and went to dinner at Red Lobster.  Yum.  Then home to watch Creed and eat ice cream with hard sauce.

Today we went to the 9 am session of the dedication.  It is a privilege to get to participate in a dedication and to be reminded of the sacred nature of temples.  We spent the rest of the morning watching Easter videos produced by the church.  There are 18 of them on the Mormon channel.  That certainly got me in the Easter spirit on this week of Easter.  We ate all our leftovers for lunch, cleaned up (much easier and quicker with only two of us) and headed home.

We timed it so we were plenty early for Max's musical play "The Priesthood Legacy".   I got to have a fun visit with Ashley before it started.  It was fun to have Janey, Warner and Rosey come, too.  The play was held in the Richards Building and done all by his ward, written by the bishop's wife.  Max welcomed everyone and also played the part of Brandon Jones.  He had a solo part and sang "These Are the Days" and did a fantastic job.  Honestly, I know I am bias, but he sounded so good.  It really was a moving and beautiful program.  It topped of our weekend trip!

One other fun tidbit of the week was tending the boys Thursday night so Nick and Stef could go to his work dinner.  The weather has been so nice we rode bikes and played outside. And bonus, I got to hold sweet Sofie when they got home.  Oh she is a sweetie.

It's almost Monday.  Gotta go.  Love you all.

It topped of our weekend trip!

One other fun tidbit of the week was tending the boys Thursday night so Nick and Stef could go to his work dinner. The weather has been so nice we rode bikes and played outside. And bonus, I got to hold sweet Sofie when they got home. Oh she is a sweetie.

It's almost Monday. Gotta go. Love you all.

What a sweet letter and thanks again for all of your help with the boys. I'm so proud of your great attitude about work. I think back when you first started and how frustrating, depressing and hard it was. You always strive for a good attitude but it was no secret it was difficult. Well, look at where you are now! Wade could hardly run that office if you weren't there. Makes me think of a great quote my mother taught me as a young man from Heber J Grant. "That which we persist in doing, becomes easier to do. Not that the nature of the thing has changed, but OUR ability to do it has increased". You're a living witness mom :)

I also have to comment on the missionary book. The boys all gave that to Stef for Christmas and signed the book. It was sweet. I think Stef has read it to them once, as have I, and both of us cried our eyes out too. We figured we better not read it to them too much or it might scare them away from wanting to serve missions. :). I'm glad you'd read it to them. 

We sure love you!!

I will start with the biggest and most exciting news.  Grandchild number 9,  Sofie Mei Bassett, entered the world at 8 pm last night, healthy and happy.  What a blessing!  We were able to go visit this afternoon and she is so very sweet.  Also, Stef looked terrific as she sat calmly in bed with all of her visitors, including her three boys, noisily surrounding her.  Sofie is already loved - a lot!  She is beautiful and perfect!

I was able to tend the three boys Saturday and that was fun.  After picking them up from grandpa and grandma Morris we headed over to Shopko to pick out gifts for the new sister.  Then they also got to get a couple hot wheels for themselves.  They even picked out a purple Honda to give to Sofie!  Bret got a "color changer" that went from white to orange depending on the temperature of the water.  Pretty cool!  So cool that Clay was regretting his purchase.  So later in the day we had to go back and get one for Clay and Ned.  That is the fun part about being a grandma.  I would never have done that for my own kids!  They played for hours with those cars, along with jumping on the trampoline and eating pizza and playing basketball.  In the afternoon I read them some stories.  I made the mistake of reading "Mommy, Do I Have to Serve a Mission?". That book always makes me cry and this time was no exception.  The boys got very quiet and Ned could not take his eyes off me.  You all know how I am when I cry - it's not a pretty sight!  I just kept thinking about how sweet they all are (and Bentley and Griff, too) and how someday they were going to have to leave their moms and grandma and what good missionaries they will be.  It made me tearful.  Ned informed me that he was not going to leave his mom (just like the little boy in the book.). It was a sweet moment for me but I hope the boys aren't scarred for life seeing grandma cry.

The rest of the week was good, too.  Monday at work Wade called me in for a twenty second "performance review" and gave me a raise.  Wait, maybe it was only a ten second review because we had lots of patients and it was a busy day.  It was a busy week.  I ended up having to work on Wednesday to fill in.  His patient load has picked up considerably and that means non-stop running around.  I do get lots of steps in (but not as many as Blaine) and I enjoy it - usually!

Monday night Janey and Warner planned dinner at our house.  They needed the grill and included us in on their pineapple burgers - yum!  Plus Janey made a yummy pasta salad.  I love to eat someone else's cooking.  Thanks again guys.  Janey came over a couple other evenings while Warner was at work.  It's really fun to watch Griffen get the hang of walking.  He can do it but crawling must feel so much safer because that still seems to be his preference.

Tuesday night was the YSA Face to Face event with Elder Holland.  We invited anyone in the ward to come watch it.  We asked them to respond if they planned to come since we were getting pizza.  Only a few responded but we had 13 come.  It was nice.  Also that day at work a friend of Wades, who he is treating for free, brought in a pan of Carmelita bars.  Wade doesn't eat sweets and told me to take them home.  They were such a nice treat to have for the YSA.

Friday was the Provo Temple night with the Yorgasons.  We ate a Pizza Limon and headed to Provo, meeting Max at the temple and making the last session with not much time to spare.  It is fun to go to other temples.

I've been reading the Elizabeth Smart book and really enjoying it.  I recommend it.  She is a remarkable person to deal with all she did.  Besides all the awful stuff, she focuses on sweet miracles that happened along the way.  I want someone else to read it because I keep wanting to talk to someone about it.

I loved face timing with Blaine and kiddos tonight.  And later visiting with he and Kris.  And I loved having spaghetti dinner with many of you.  I also went over to Rosey and Amber's and gave them my housewarming gift and saw their cute house.   It's been a great day as Sunday's usually are.

Love from Mom

So excited for you guys! Nick, I was thinking that your youngest kid will have a birthday exactly one month before your birthday just like my oldest kid has a birthday exactly one month after my birthday. Hey, I happen to be on and responding to other letters so it looks like I'll get to be the first to respond to your letter, Stef! I really loved hearing all that is going on with the kids.
