Glad you got there safe! Your story kind of reminded me of Rosey and I's story of sprinting through the airport on our way home from Texas. Loved the letter Mom! Sure love you!

I missed writing last night but thought I would catch up on this beautiful Austin morning.  Tess and I just got back from a beautiful walk and Janey and Griff are upstairs snoozing!  We were all awake at 6:30 this morning.  Kristi had written me notes about her life and schedule and said the kids needed a "ridiculous amount of prodding" to get out the door on time.  She nailed it.  Wow!  I have forgotten the patience it takes to do this!

When we flew out on Friday morning there was a super long security line.  Then, because I was holding Grif when we went thru the detector, my hands had to be swiped.  They tested positive for something so then practically everything in my carry-on bag had to be swiped.  Then I was pulled to the side, taken to a private room, waited for another woman to finally come, and had to be patted down.  Thankfully I passed and we could get on our way to the furthest gate, arriving barely in time to line up for boarding.  Thank you, Bret, for teaching me to allow PLENTY of time at the airport.

Janey and I flew to Austin via Las Vegas.  Because of potential bad weather in Austin we boarded late and THEN, after the plane was completely boarded (and full), they announce that we had a potential 90 minute wait before being cleared for take off.  Yikes!  Thankfully they permitted anyone who needed to to get off the plane and stay in the airport waiting area.  We figured Griff needed it.  Thankfully the delay wasn't the full 90 minutes.

Blaine and Kristi had left for Hawaii the day before and left their van at the airport in a "valet" parking.  After we paid and showed ID, their van pulled up and had a totally flat tire rear tire.  They called some service guys to pump it up (saying it must just be a slow leak) and they sent us on our way.  After calling Kristi we decided to stop at Costco on our way home (since that is where she bought the tires) to get it repaired.  That was a two hour wait but we decided to do it then so we could get it taken care of!

Finally around 7 pm we picked up the kids.  Two of her friends were so kind to keep them all those extra hours, and feed them.  What kind sisters!  We were so thankful to be home.  And I was so thankful, through all of that, to have Janey with me so we could just laugh and talk out the next step.  And so she could be the navigator!

We laid low on Saturday.  The kids got lots of "media time" as they call it.  Gwen, Tess and I went to a craft store to spend her birthday money.  Again, so happy to have Janey here so we can do those kind of things without taking all the kids.

Yesterday, instead of the regular block, the had a 2-hour regional broadcast.  The first 30 minutes was a message from their stake president and then a 90 broadcast that went to all of the southeast region from CA to TX.  Elders Robbins, Corbridge and Oaks all spoke, along with Linda Reeves from the General Relief Society presidency.  The kids were so good and Tess was tired and very mellow on my lap and I actually got to listen and enjoy it.  I was really moved by their messages on simplifying our lives, on repentance, and on what questions in the Gospel really matter.  I think those kinds of meetings are not recorded so you just get to hear the talk once (unlike conference). I really enjoyed it.  And it made me miss dad as I wanted to talk to him about it!

Yesterday afternoon we made a bare "gratitude tree" out of brown paper sacks (similar to what I did with Bret and Clay last year). We cut out lots of paper leaves to write the things we are thankful for and tape them on to the tree throughout the week and month.

I am sure I have rambled on long enough.  I just have to say how adorable Tess is.  (There are not words for her sweetness.) how obedient Bentley is, how creative and smart Gwen is and how dramatic and spunky Ivy is.  And I love them all!  Oh and did I mention how thankful I am for Janey for coming?  Very thankful!

Love you all.  I have a fun FHE planned for tonight.  Grandpa is going to be jealous he isn't here because our refreshments are his favorite - a chocolate cream layer cake.

I'm sorry about not getting the job, Nick.  The fact that it took so long for them to decide seems to be an indication that it was a HARD decision and I would guess you were the one they wanted but for whatever reason someone else was chosen.  That is my bias opinion anyway!  There must be something good down the line.  So proud of all your hard work and thankful you have employment!  Love you guys.

After months of waiting and several interviews I actually just found out today that I did not get the job. While I believe it's because the Lord has other plans for me, it is still hard news. Mostly because a) I actually feel very qualified for the job which is something I can't always say has been the case and b) everyone I interviewed with are people on the team I currently work on. So I'm having a hard time not taking it as evidence of how they might really feel about me. I'll obviously sit down with some of them to try and get some feedback, but in any case, it's all said and done. Anyway, it's all ok, and life goes on but surely is a disappointment.

I haven't written in so long!  I have a few minutes so I will share some updates!

Bret is enjoying his new school.  I am hoping he can find some good friends over the rest of the school year.  Meanwhile, we will keep being best friends as a family which is definitely my preference.  I still feel so grateful to have hime closer and not have to drive so much.  He is such a good studier.  He loves reading and is on book #30 of the Magic Treehouse series.  He and Clay will both play jr. Jazz basketball this winter season.  We are talking a lot about baptism and hope we can sufficiently prepare him so he understands the covenant he is making as much as an 8 year old can.  

Clay just loves his Kindergarten teacher.  He loves all day Kinder and loves walking home with our sweet neighbor girls.  He loves being rewarded for doing well in school and tries so hard to be a good boy.  It is sweet.  He puked on Sunday night (while sleeping) and got to stay home from school Monday.  He loved it and even though he had been sick he was trying to serve and help me all day!  He was hoping to puke again so he could stay home with Ned and I.  :)  He is my fire and ice boy with high highs and low lows.  He does well with his reading and math.  He loves to do his homework because he loves to color.  

Ned is just the sweetest little friend I could ever ask for.  He will follow me around all day and help or do his own thing depending on what he is feeling like doing.  He cracks me up with the questions he asks and the faces he makes.  He loves to sleep on my floor by my bed.  He comes in nightly although we try to get him to go to sleep in his bed.  He is in the funniest phase of every time he wets the diaper he needs it changed right then.  I see this as a good sign that he will want to potty train before he is five.  :) .  During the last bit of primary on Sunday, his nursery teacher came in and said "Ned is requesting a fresh diap." He is hilarious. I even had to change one in the middle of the night last night because he was wet when he came in.  Boy am I getting prepped for a newborn.  :)  He is also SUPER OCD.  The blankets have to face a certain way for sleeping, his diaper has to be just right, socks just right, and we have to do things in a certain order.  Its adorable though.  He gets super upset if we don't read out of our special scriptures that we are working on right now, meaning if we just use our phones, to him it doesn't really count.   I am grateful for his friendship and companionship and this time we get to spend together.  I am so lucky and blessed to have these 3 boys!  (And NICK)  They are the best!!! 

Nick is crazy busy with work.  Most of you know he has applied for a new position that he is really hoping for.  I can't believe how long it has dragged out, but such is the way of HR right?  You can pray for him to get it if its the right thing for him.  Neither of us have ever been so tired in our lives.  We are looking forward to the Thanksgiving break.  :).  He recently finished up a softball league that he played with my brother Brad and his friend Zac Pendleton.  We didn't get to go to very many games as school is in session and bedtimes are earlier.  He enjoys his morning basketball with Rosey, James, Regan and others as long as he doesn't have to get to an early morning meeting at work.  He got the yard looking ship shape last Saturday.  We were grateful for the beautiful weather!  We got our sprinklers winterized and all the hoses, etc. put away as well as covering our lovely swamp cooler.  He is so handy!  I know we both wish he had more time for home projects!  We are enjoying the plants and things coming together in our yard that once was weeds.  How grateful I am each time I look outside!  He is working hard in his calling as Stake YM pres.  He barely got released from the ward YMs pres a couple weeks ago.  Sundays are so incredibly busy and exhausting for us, but it feels good to serve.  He is such a good teacher and father to the boys.  I am grateful especially for his strengths in the areas that I am weakest.  I am grateful we get to have each other to navigate through parenthood and life on earth.  I love him lots.  

I love my calling as Primary Pres.  I love the ladies I work with and having something to focus on and prepare for.  We have a great ward that needs us and we need them (sounds like the YW theme right?)  As soon as I have some energy, I nest while I am prego- meaning not just at the end, but the entire time!  We have gotten a lot of things ready which helps me feel at peace.  I LOVE shopping for great deals, and it is SUPER fun to buy girl clothes!! The nursery/Ned's room is pretty much ready.  We didn't do too much, just hung curtains, added some girlish artwork and got some new sheets and a mattress for our beloved free off KSL crib haha.  Ned has taken his mattress to his toddler bed that he sometimes sleeps in.  :)  It should work great and was easy peasy.  I am enjoying my 2 dance classes that I am teaching.  They are a little bit younger than I taught last year and I love that.  They haven't made as many bad habits and haven't developed attitudes yet so they are fun to work with.  I am enjoying my adult company and the dance class I get to take with it.  I am exhausted by then end of Tuesday night since I am gone from 5-10:30 dancing, but it gets me to exercise and socialize.  We are preparing for a big show April 22-23.  You are all invited!  :)  It will be called Express-ions of the Family.  (My company is called Express).  Lots of cool things are starting to come together!  I also am so delighted that my Christmas cards are done and my holiday shopping is almost done.  I have goals to be done by Dec. 1 so I can enjoy the Spirit of my favorite season the entire month of December.  I finished a book called Celebrating a Christ Centered Christmas that gave me some great ideas of how to really focus on Christ and bring the spirit into our home for the holidays.  I LOVED the book and can't wait to do some of the things that it suggested.  I told Nick all I wanted for Christmas was for him to read it before Dec. 1 and he is.  What a good guy :) his shopping is easy this year!  

Well I am going on and on, I guess that is what happens when you never write.  Love you all and sure enjoy the time we get to spend together.  Looking forward to much more!!

Love your preparedness for the holiday season.  I did it last year because of Griff and was grateful I did (although iid by get to "enjoy" the holiday season as much as I felt like a walking zombie.) didn't know Nick applied for a new position. After months of waiting and several interviews I actually just found out today that I did not get the job. While I believe it's because the Lord has other plans for me, it is still hard news. Mostly because a) I actually feel very qualified for the job which is something I can't always say has been the case and b) everyone I interviewed with are people on the team I currently work on. So I'm having a hard time not taking it as evidence of how they might really feel about me. I'll obviously sit down with some of them to try and get some feedback, but in any case, it's all said and done. Anyway, it's all ok, and life goes on but surely is a disappointment.

After months of waiting and several interviews I actually just found out today that I did not get the job. While I believe it's because the Lord has other plans for me, it is still hard news. The nursery/Ned's room is pretty much ready.  We didn't do too much, just hung curtains, added some girlish artwork and got some new sheets and a mattress for our beloved free off KSL crib haha.  Ned has taken his mattress to his toddler bed that he sometimes sleeps in.  :)  It should work great and was easy peasy.  I am enjoying my 2 dance classes that I am teaching.  They are a little bit younger than I taught last year and I love that.  They haven't made as many bad habits and haven't developed attitudes yet so they are fun to work with.  I am enjoying my adult company and the dance class I get to take with it.  I am exhausted by then end of Tuesday night since I am gone from 5-10:30 dancing, but it gets me to exercise and socialize.  We are preparing for a big show April 22-23.  You are all invited!  :)  It will be called Express-ions of the Family.  (My company is called Express).  Lots of cool things are starting to come together!  I also am so delighted that my Christmas cards are done and my holiday shopping is almost done.  I have goals to be done by Dec. 1 so I can enjoy the Spirit of my favorite season the entire month of December.  I finished a book called Celebrating a Christ Centered Christmas that gave me some great ideas of how to really focus on Christ and bring the spirit into our home for the holidays.  I LOVED the book and can't wait to do some of the things that it suggested.  I told Nick all I wanted for Christmas was for him to read it before Dec. 1 and he is.  What a good guy :) his shopping is easy this year!  

Well I am going on and on, I guess that is what happens when you never write.  Love you all and sure enjoy the time we get to spend together.  Looking forward to much more!!

Mom! I loved this update, and I want to respond to more when I am not so tired, but I just have to comment- I can't believe Ryan and Julie are moving to Clovis!

Literally the main thing I think when I drive through there is "I feel so bad for anyone who has to live here!" Isn't that awful! Now I feel guilty for thinking that! But I can't lie, I just...can't fathom someone I know and love living there! It will be great for us, to have a reason to stop and say hi (maybe a place to rest our weary heads). Let's hope my negative feelings have more to do with having been trapped in a car for like 18 hrs when we pass through there and nothing more ;) haha.

Love from Mom

Hi guys,

We just got home from a good family meeting at Bryan and Chandi's home. I think her apple crisp is the best I have ever had. She is a wonderful cook, just like her mom was. Yum!
